We were approached by a global consultancy that was working with a mid-market private equity fund to support them in evaluating the potential acquisition of a UK-based builders merchant group.

Solution delivered:

We initially spent time reviewing the sell side advisors Information Memorandum to quickly assimilate the information provided, then discussed the scope of work required with our clients. This would help them form an opinion for their private equity client and assess the workstreams involved.

One of the key areas for our client was to evaluate the target business’ customer proposition, centred around planning, visiting, reviewing and evaluating representative branches from each division of the merchant group looking to be acquired.

By working on a collaborative basis with our client’s team, work programmes and checklists were devised, and branch visits undertaken over several weeks across the UK.

Once our report was completed, our client was able to assimilate the findings and we then supported them with an evaluation of the results and their presentation of draft findings to their client.

Results achieved:

Following the presentation of their draft findings, our clients were asked to extend the scope further in specific areas. We were able to continue to assist them by undertaking further work to support the extended scope, and with the preparation of their final report.

Based on this report, their private equity client submitted an offer for the target UK-based builders’ merchant group.
