We were contacted by a well-known mixed merchant that was looking to create and implement a new three-year plan to scale their business for its next growth phase.
Having already built and grown a successful business over many years, the owners were now looking to further improve their longer-term profitability; and develop their existing team to give the business scalable foundations.
The ultimate goal was to accelerate the business’ growth and allow the owners more time to work ‘on the business’ as opposed to ‘in it’.
Solution delivered
Our team listened to the owners’ aspirations and concerns, and worked together with them to develop a three-year plan that played to their strengths and would be easily applicable to their business model.
We worked to earn the trust and respect of their existing team, and together evaluated the four drivers of their business:
- Their People;
- Their Sales growth drivers;
- Their Operations (including purchasing, warehousing, transport and H&S); and
- Their Financial performance.
Based on the results of this in-depth evaluation, we developed a timelined plan of workstreams and, together with our client, implemented them to achieve the business need, including helping the owners to empower their team to achieve the best possible outcome.
Results achieved
- A clear three-year plan was created that both met the owners’ needs and was embraced by their team.
- Improved their like-for-like sales performance, including increased active accounts/share of wallet and gross margin, with tools used adopted by the team.
- Improved underlying EBITDA and cash position and identified the levers to pull
- Solution delivered on time and on budget
- The owners are now able to work ‘on the business’.
