As part of an existing multi-phase ‘Go to Market’ assignment being undertaken by Moorgate for its VC and Contech founder clients, we were asked to support their next investment round and help them source and track potential funding partners to enable the next phase of their scale up.

Solution delivered:

We worked with both the Founders and their existing VC investors to understand the journey they had been on to date and, in particular, what their thoughts were regarding investment partners for the next stage of their journey.

In parallel, we discussed the strategic roadmap and pitch deck with the Founders, to understand their journey and the characteristics and attributes of potential investors that would be of interest to them. In particular, we identified those who could act as “accelerators” to their strategic direction, by adding value in addition to their core investment.

Based on this, we worked collaboratively with the Founders to identify stakeholder types that would meet their and their VC’s aspirations, which in this case encompassed trade investor types (that used their solution), Contech VC funds appropriate to their stage of development, Contech-focused regional investment funds (based on their geography), along with crowdfunding.

We then created an Investment Tracker within which the Founders could track the progress of these potential investor types. We also designed the cadence and timeframes around this to ensure that a sufficient cash runway existed, based on their current cash burn rate and allowing time for Due Diligence and legals before their investment round was completed.

Working alongside the Founders, we helped them implement this cadence so that the entire process became embedded within the business.    

Results achieved:

Using the Investment tracker, the Founders were able to track their progress and provide transparency to their Board and existing VC investor. This culminated in their obtaining term sheets from trade investors, which resulted in both completion of the funding round to support the next stage of scale up, as well as a strategic partnership that would accelerate their strategic roadmap.
